Invisalign palatal expander

Orthodontic treatment is evolving — and we’re proud to offer one of the most exciting innovations in early intervention: the Invisalign Palatal Expander (IPE).

Designed by the makers of Invisalign®, this breakthrough treatment gives kids and teens a removable, non-invasive way to widen a narrow arch and create the space their smile needs to grow.

Whether your child is facing moderate crowding, bite issues, or simply doesn’t have enough room for adult teeth to erupt properly, the Invisalign palatal expander may be the perfect fit.

What is the Invisalign Palatal Expander?

The Invisalign Palatal Expander (IPE) is a modern, removable appliance used to gently and gradually widen the upper jaw.

Unlike traditional metal expanders that are fixed in place and activated manually with a key, the IPE uses a series of custom-designed, removable devices powered by SmartForce™ technology and 3D digital treatment planning.

The result? Predictable expansion without the bulk — or the hassle — of metal.

who can benefit from the invisalign expander?

Palatal expansion is most effective during childhood, when the jaw is still developing.

That’s why the ideal palate expander age is typically between 7 and 11 years old, though the IPE may also be used in some teens depending on their growth stage.

We recommend early orthodontic screenings around age 7 to evaluate your child’s needs and determine the best treatment timing.

commonly used to treat:

  • Narrow arch development
  • Moderate crowding teeth
  • Crossbites
  • Underdeveloped upper jaws

Why we use the Invisalign palatal expander

This next-gen expander offers a more comfortable and flexible approach to orthodontic care — especially for younger patients.

Advantages of the IPE:

  • Removable design means easier brushing and no food restrictions
  • No metal, no key-turning, and no daily discomfort
  • SmartForce™ precision allows for controlled, predictable expansion
  • Digitally planned for custom-fit results
  • Designed for growing smiles, often avoiding more aggressive treatments later

how it works & what to expect

1. Initial Consultation

Treatment with the Invisalign Palatal Expander begins with a 3D digital scan of your child’s mouth. From there, we custom-design a treatment plan using Invisalign’s proprietary software to plan each step of expansion.

2. Wearing the Expander

Instead of one fixed appliance, your child receives a series of removable, clear expander devices — each worn for about a week — that gradually guide the upper jaw into a wider position. The result is a broader arch, improved bite, and more space for permanent teeth to erupt naturally.

3. Fine-Tuning the Smile

Treatment is typically completed in just a few months and is often followed by a short period of clear aligner therapy to fine-tune the final bite. Every smile is different, so every treatment plan is different. Your GO orthodontist will walk you and your kiddo through each step of the treatment process.

Easy insertion & easy removal

The expansion process can sound intimidating, but new Invisalign palatal expansion technology makes it simple.

No metal, and no key needed to crank the device. Simply place it in and take it out.

How much does the Invisalign palatal expander cost?

Because every smile is different, the cost of treatment with the IPE will vary based on your child’s specific needs and whether additional orthodontic treatment is recommended.

We include the expander as part of your child’s comprehensive treatment plan, so you won’t be surprised by separate or unexpected costs.

On your first visit, one of our highly-experienced orthodontists will perform a detailed exam of your child’s smile, create their personalized treatment plan and calculate the total cost of treatment.

From here, we’ll create a custom, in-house financing plan, interest-free, with a down payment and monthly payments that meet your needs. We accept most insurances, and we’ll do the paperwork for you to help you receive the max benefit from your plan.
