No Surprises Here! Breaking Down Your First Orthodontic Appointment

So you’re preparing for your first orthodontic appointment ever – how exciting! You’re about to embark on a life-changing journey.

But first, you may be wondering “what happens at your first orthodontic appointment?”

We’re here to break it all down – no surprises or unexpected plot twists. We want you to feel comfortable and prepared for your complimentary consultation so you can enjoy it to the fullest extent.

Here are 4 things you can expect to experience at your first orthodontic exam:

  • Your orthodontist will examine your current smile!

When you first visit GO Orthodontics, one of our orthodontists (Dr. Gililland, Dr. O’Bannon, or Dr. Gonder) will be your orthodontist. You’ll meet your orthodontist and get to know a little bit about each other!

Your orthodontist will perform a visual exam of your smile, then take some diagnostic x-rays and photos to gain the full picture of your teeth, gums and jaw bones.

Next up are your digital impressions! We’ll use our iTero digital scanner to take accurate and precise digital impressions of your mouth, without the discomfort and messiness of traditional impressions.

Your orthodontist will use all of this information, from your visual exam, x-rays and digital impressions, to create your personalized treatment plan!

  • You’ll choose a treatment!

At your orthodontic exam, we’ll help you explore your treatment options so you can choose the best one for you. Your orthodontist will discuss the pros and cons of braces, Invisalign, and/or any orthodontic appliances that may help you achieve your ideal smile.

After your orthodontist examines your smile, he or she will determine whether a full treatment of braces or Invisalign is best for your case, or if an appliance would be more efficient first.

The best treatment option for you will depend on a few factors, including your specific condition, the severity of your condition, your age, and of course, your preferences. We’ll listen to your concerns and talk about your lifestyle to help you decide between braces or Invisalign.

If you’re interested in braces, we offer three different kinds! Choose from metal braces, white-gold braces, and clear ceramic braces

  • We’ll create a payment plan that suits your needs.

We’ll talk about finances too. Before you start treatment, you’ll sit down with one of our team members to discuss the cost of treatment. We’ll present our financial options to you and discuss our 0%-interest in-house financing options, as well as outside financing with CareCredit.

We also offer a number of discounts for our amazing patients. We offer a:

military discount, clergy discount, homeschool discount, teacher discount, pay-in-full discount and a 2nd family member discount.

The cost of your treatment will depend on a few things, including the length of your treatment plan and the type of treatment required. From here, we’ll also calculate your dental insurance benefit if you have insurance! We’re proud to accept most insurances and our team is happy to submit your insurance claims for you, so you can receive the maximum benefit.

You’ll hear all of this again at your orthodontic exam too, of course.

  • You begin treatment!

You can begin treatment on your very first visit. Why wait any longer to get started? We offer Same Day Braces, so you can complete your orthodontic exam and get your braces placed (or Invisalign scans taken) – all in the same appointment.

Once your treatment plan and financing are squared away, your orthodontist will either put braces on your teeth, or take your digital Invisalign scans to have your custom clear aligners created! This entire appointment process takes about 30 to 45 minutes. If you choose same day braces, it only takes 15 to 20 minutes for us to place your braces!

We aim to make every orthodontic appointment a great experience, from your first visit – to your last. You will always be greeted with smiles and friendly faces!
