School’s out and summer’s in! If you’re considering braces or Invisalign®, and you’re wondering when is the best time to get braces, summer may be the perfect time to get started. Let’s find out why:
- • No school!
School is out for the summer! This means classes and extracurricular activities are on hold for a few months. With more free time, it’s more convenient to schedule your regular orthodontic appointments. You aren’t juggling a school schedule with an orthodontic appointment schedule.
During the school year, we try to keep routine checkups short, in consideration of your time. During the summer, we can spend a little longer perfecting your treatment!
- • More time to adjust
The first few days of having your braces on can be an adjustment. Your teeth and gums are adjusting to the new enforcement of brackets and wires, so you may experience a little soreness. You might have to choose softer foods (like soup, applesauce and bread) during the first week or two, until your mouth adjusts to your braces. With no school in session, it’s easier to kick back, sip on some applesauce and allow your mouth to rest!
- • Sport your summer colors!
With each visit to your office, your orthodontist will tighten your braces’ wires and replace your rubber bands with new ones. This means you get to choose a new color for your braces each time you visit us! Take advantage of this creative freedom and choose some bright colors to match the summer season. Since school is out and you don’t have to concern yourself too much with a ‘professional’ appearance, you can add some excitement to your braces. Try a rainbow of colors, or alternate with different colors on every other bracket!
- • Start the Fall 2023 school year with braces!
After your teeth and gums have adjusted, you’ll be able to start school again once you’ve already gotten acquainted with your braces! By the time school restarts, the soreness phase will be over, and you’ll have an idea of which colors you love on your braces and which colors you don’t love. It can be more of an adjustment to get braces on during the school year, because you have so many more responsibilities on your plate!
